Our Human Resource office is responsible for managing the employee experience at Hospice-Care of Sangamon County. Initially, the office accepts, reviews, and processes applicants' resumes and job applications. Upon hire, the office provides guidance throughout the entire orientation process insuring paperwork is completed, competency testing is finalized, and training is provided on personnel policies, information technology, and government regulations.
The Human Resource office is also responsible for enrolling employees in both our group health insurance plan and our 401(k) plan. Additionally, the Human Resource office manages communications with employees as they relate to these benefits by utilizing HR Office™ software that enables employees to access benefit information 24 hours a day from any computer connected to our network. This software also gives employees access to available vacation and sick leave balances and the ability to electronically request time off.
The Human Resource office also works to maintain the cohesive and supportive work environment that current employees enjoy through both weekly and monthly celebrations. The office coordinates the observance of black history month, nurses' week, and breast cancer awareness month, for example. The office also organizes monthly happy hours, and plans quarterly company parties.
Hospice-Care of Sangamon County is committed to investing in its employees. Group Insurance Coverage
Hospice-Care pays 95% of qualifying employees' group health insurance premiums.
Hospice-Care's group insurance plan provides medical coverage, dental coverage, a prescription drug benefit, and life insurance. For care provided in network, the plan provides for a low annual deductible, minimal out-of-pocket expense, and a minimal co-pay for physicians visits.
401(k) Plan
Hospice-Care's 401(k) plan allows qualifying employees to defer a percentage of their income to a variety of investment options. We then match dollar for dollar deferrals between 1% and 3% and fifty cents on the dollar for deferrals between 4% and 5%. Alterna-Care's 401(k) plan is a Safe Harbor 401(k); meaning employees are always 100% vested in the agency's matching contribution.
Schedule and Compensation
Flexibility:
Many positions allow employees to balance family and work obligations through flexible scheduling.
Holidays: The following holidays are observed: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
Vacation: Qualifying employees accrue vacation at a rate of 10 days per year. Vacation accrues daily and can be used after six months of service. The rate of accrual increases with an employee's length of service.
Sick Leave: Qualifying employees accrue sick leave at a rate of 12 days per year. Sick leave accrues daily and can be used immediately provided the leave is allowed under the agency's sick leave policy. Employees are allowed to carry over a certain amount of sick leave from year-to-year, which increases with an employee's length of service.
Leaves of Absence: In order to assist employees with balancing family responsibilities and their careers, Alterna-Care recognizes eighteen different leave types.
Mileage Reimbursement: Pursuant to agency policy and Medicare regulations, employees are reimbursed for miles traveled while conducting agency business.
Exposure to Technology: Technology is a part of every job at the agency. Our Information Technology department keeps abreast of the ever changing technological landscape, recommends the adoption of new technologies to improve efficiencies and patient outcomes, and implements those recommendations when approved. As part of the implementation process, the IT department provides training to agency employees on the use of technology.
Currently, the agency employs the use of tablet, laptop, and desktop PCs, Blackberry mobile devices, HomMed™ vital sign monitoring systems, and more to assist in our unending efforts to improve the quality of life of our patients.
